Laviai & LinaNielsen
Laviai and Lina Nielsen are athletes and twin-sisters who hail from Egyptian and Danish descent and were raised in East London. Originally longer distance runners in their early teens, they soon excelled at shorter distances. Laviai & Lina Nielsen both appeared at the European Junior Championships in 2015 where Laviai won individual gold in the 400m. She then paired up with Lina to win gold in the 4x400m relay. Alongside athletics, in 2018 both girls graduated with degrees from Queen Mary University – Lina in chemistry and science & Laviai in Geography. That year Laviai came 4th in the senior European Championships at 400m. At the World Championships in 2019 Laviai finished third in the women’s 400m. In July 2019 she set the fastest time by a British woman in the event since 2015. Lina has recently switched to 400m hurdles and has also started a blog and YouTube channel aimed at inspiring young teenagers to persevere through the difficulties of life's challenges including high-level sport. The twins aim to inspire young girls through their social media accounts, as seeing women achieve in sport is what inspired them to pursue their career. Their hope is for many more young girls to follow in their footsteps.
