Laviai & Lina Nielsen

When people ask me who I am, I always say "We are Lina and Laviai and we run around an oval track during our days”, but there's more to us than meets the eye. Lina graduated from Queen Mary with an undergraduate degree in chemistry and science. Laviai graduated with a degree in Geography, as they have both always been interested in the world around them.

Hailing from Egyptian and Danish descent, they have spent a lot of time across Europe and North Africa, they have been Inspired by the different cultures and societies around them. They were born and raised in East London, Being from East London, it's a place where people can really express themselves and has inspired them in many ways. They weren't afraid to go out into the world and do what they wanted to do, and thus they ended up in high-performance sport and haven’t looked back since.

Originally longer distance runners in their early teens, they soon excelled at shorter distances. Laviai & Lina Nielsen both appeared at the European Junior Championships in 2015 where Laviai won individual gold in the 400m and she paired up with Lina to win gold in the 4x400m relay. In 2018 Laviai came 4th in the European Championships at 400m.

Lina has recently switched to 400m hurdles and has also started a blog aimed at inspiring young teenagers to persevere through the difficulties of life's challenges including high-level sport. The twins also aim to inspire young girls through their social media accounts, as seeing women achieve in sport is what inspired them to pursue their career. Their hope is for many more young girls to follow in their footsteps.
